Hello there and welcome to TorontoShay.com! Some of you may know me from my past but I’m sure there are some of you who know nothing about me so here is a little bit about who I am and where I came from…

I grew up in Cowtown (Calgary), Alberta and moved to Toronto right after highschool. I fell in love with Toronto instantly.  The skyscrapers, the people, the shopping!  As a student, I started working at Holt Renfrew (Canada’s answer to Barneys) and it was there that I really developed my independent spirit, love of fashion, beauty and overindulgence. I was that girl who ate Kraft dinner for an entire month just so I could buy that fabulous handbag. (Worth it!)

After graduating, I founded What Women Want, one of Canada’s largest online & event destinations. It was a network focused on connecting girls like me with all things fashion, beauty, inspiration and relationship. WWW also spawned ilovewhatwomenwant.com, a popular lifestyle blog that drew in traffic from all over the world. I’m still very proud of the community that grew out of this venture and all the inspirational women I got to meet while running the brand.

After a few years as an entrepreneur, the unthinkable happened. I lost my father to cancer. A traumatic event like that really shook me to the core. Suddenly, I was less interested in parties, bags and shoes.

I knew I wanted to get married. I wanted to have a family.

With my newfound craving for stability, I re-entered the corporate world. I started working for one of Canada’s largest media conglomerates in a role where I was responsible for a multi million dollar portfolio and worked closely with some of the world’s most recognizable brands.  I loved it! It wasn’t uncommon to see Canada’s top fashion editors, media personalities and celebs in the elevator every day. I couldn’t get enough.

Also during this time, I met my wonderful husband Sean, and we got married. We said our vows at the same ski club where Sean grew up snowboarding as a kid. We did a dove release, my bridesmaids wore sequined evening gowns … it was an absolutely perfect start to a new phase of my life.

Most recently, we had a baby girl. Her name is Kensington Grey. Kensington for Kensington Market (the location of our first date) and my favorite colour, Grey (Canadian spelling, obviously!).

Since having a baby, I’ve felt the itch to share my world again. I missed belonging to a community of women that were just like me.

That’s why I started TorontoShay.com. This is where you’ll find bits of my life, my style and confessions as I navigate life with my favorite people by my side … in the city I love more than anywhere else.
