For as long as I can remember, my mom has pretty much always been someone that I can totally relate to. I mean, we have that obvious family tie, but I also love that she’s a risk taker with a Carribean flare to her personality. We also connect on fashion, business, but most importantly, my mom has always given me solid advice.
Now that I am a mom, I have grown to appreciate her wisdom and experience even more.
When it comes to life, love, parenting, or whatever. My mom just knows. She was a single mother who postponed her happiness so that she could focus on her family and despite her circumstances she worked around the clock, educated herself, and ran a successful Caribbean restaurant in the city where I grew up (Calgary). She’s lived a lot of life and managed to thrive despite facing a lot of ups and downs so when she tells me something. I listen.
The other day, I asked her to give me the best advice she could offer and this is what she said:
“You must expect great things of yourself. So, always work harder, run faster, jump higher, look deeper, reflect daily, be better… and you will reach your maximum potential. But don’t forget to treat yourself, have lots of fun, laugh and smile along the way.”
That advice was exactly what I needed to hear and I plan on sharing it with little Kensie as she gets older. And speaking of treating yourself, I decided to take my mom’s advice and treat myself to a Google Home from our neighborhood Best Buy as an early Mother’s day gift from me to me because, hey, I deserve it! I used their Reserve and Pick Up service and reserved it online and picked it up just 20 minutes later! How awesome is that! And if in-store pick up isn’t your thing, shipping on all orders over $35 is FREE. And as you can see from the photos below, our Google Home has come in handy during our impromptu living room dance parties. We are having so much fun with it.
