When I discovered that my friend and talented photographer Denisse Benitez, of ChasingDenisse.com was coming to Toronto, I just had to set up a girl’s weekend. Getting together with Denisse to create is always amazing, but we really wanted some time to relax, chat it up, and laugh out loud as much as possible so we booked a room at the Shangri-La Hotel here in downtown Toronto.

I’ve heard how great this hotel is but being able to experience it for myself has been on my list. Let me just say, I was right to believe everything I’ve heard. Our stay at the Shangri-La Hotel was amazing and an honourable mention must go to the bathrooms because they are GORGEOUS! It was immediately apparent why they were included in Travel and Leisure’s Top 10 City Hotels in Canada.

Luxury is the first word that came to mind when I walked into the hotel lobby. Soft music was playing in the background, eye-catching couture pieces were on full display, and the staff was exceptional. We were greeted immediately. You could tell that customer service was important to them. Denisse and I were shown to our incredible room and given all the details we needed to have the perfect stay.

I don’t think I’ve ever been to a more beautifully designed hotel. Taking in the décor at the Shangri-La Hotel was an experience in itself. Everything was Asian inspired with gold accents, marble finishes, floral prints, wood, glass… and there were contrasting and complimentary pieces in every room and space.

While there, I was able to talk Denisse into her first spa experience. She wasn’t having it until she stepped foot inside the Miraj Hammam Spa. I don’t think anyone could have resisted. We decided on the Hammam Spa Treatment. It’s a Turkish bath, in a sauna that includes a luxurious exfoliating process. It was so good Denisse was already contemplating her next spa day.

Breakfast at their in house restaurant Bosk was delicious, they have a buffet option with lots of yummy options. Our beds were comfortable, and the entire experience inspired a calming feeling that allowed me to rest up for the week ahead.

I’m sure by now you can tell how much I enjoyed my stay at the Shangri-La Hotel. Not only would I recommend it, I’m waiting for all my other friends to come to town, so I can relive my girl’s weekend all over again, and again.
