If you know me, you know that I travel to New York a lot. It’s literally one of the best places on earth!
As a blogger I think I’ve shot at all, if not, most of the popular spots in the city. I figured that people that visit NYC do it for the food, the arts and entertainment but this is 2018 and I would be cray not to think that a great instagram photo or two is on the list of “to dos” for those visiting the big apple. So behold, an Instagrammer’s guide to great photo locations in New York City!
The Brooklyn Bridge
This is one of my favourite places ever to shoot. In this shot I entered on the Brooklyn side but you can also enter on the Manhattan side. The bridge is so gorgeous and it is one of the most recognizable landmarks in the world. Pro Tip: arrive early and line yourself up with the white line. There are tonnes of people there (wedding shoots, engagement shoots, tourists, you name it) but if you line yourself up with the white line your body will block out anyone in the background. But to avoid the crowds get their early. As in right at sunrise and also, watch out for the cyclists! They show no mercy to those on the bridge capturing photos. I saw a few people almost get run over a few times! (shop this look here)
Nomo Soho Entrance
I’ve stayed at the Nomo a few times while in New York. This gorgeous greenery arch at their Crosby Street entrance is an Instagrammer’s dream and I’ve been back more times than I can count for photo ops. Pro tip: If you have more than one look to shoot, change in the hotel’s bathroom lobby and you will be good to go! (shop this look here)
DUMBO stands for Down under the Manhattan bridge overpass and if you go to Water Street right at Washington, you will capture the most perfect shot of the bridge on a gorgeous cobblestone street. Pro Tip: get there early. As soon as the sun rises. People literally come out like cockroaches as soon as there is sunlight and there are line ups with several people trying to capture photos at this spot, so the earlier you get there, the better! Is the first online fashion brand that French girls swoon over that recently opened brick and mortar stores and their floral displays have been all the Instagram rage. The store is on Elizabeth street in Manhattan and they seem to welcome the social media attention because they leave out fresh lemonade and ice tea for Instagrammer’s and shoppers alike! Pro Tip: There’s a cool tile with the words New York written in script. This also makes for a great shoefie! (shop this look here)
Katz Deli NYC
The iconic Katz deli is located in the lower east side and apparently has the best house cured pastrami in the country! While you’re there, make sure you snap a shot in front of the neon sign. Pro tip: wear something that matches the neon lights. It will give your photo that extra “pop” when you post! (shop this look here)
A shot going in or out of the subway is quintessential New York City! Need I say more? (shop this look here)
Flat Iron building
The triangular, 22 story, 285 foot tall steel framed Flat Iron Building is located at 175th avenue in Manhattan and serves as the perfect backdrop for photos. I try to shoot here whenever I’m in town. (shop this look here)
Yellow cab shot
When in New York, you do as New Yorkers do right! I always try to get a cab shot when I’m in town. There’s nothing like a NYC taxi.
Jane’s Carousel – Brooklyn Bridge Park
This spot always makes for a great instagram photo. Pro tip: check to make sure that they’re open before you go!
Anywhere in SoHo
There’s nothing like the architecture in Soho. It’s one of my most favourite places to take photos without a doubt. Pro tip: go early because EVERYONE and their mama likes to snap photos here and Greene Street is probably my favourite street.
Noticeably absent is Top of the Rock (my girlfriend Monica got the perfect shot there) and any rooftop with the Empire State Building in the background. Those are on the list for my next trip. Do you have any favourite places that you’d like to share?
Until next time!
